SCS travel teams compete in EDP, a competitive league which plays under the umbrella of New Jersey Youth Soccer and USYS.
Player evaluations are required to participate in SCS’s travel program, and cuts are possible.
Typically, teams practice twice each week (once with a professional trainer, and once with a volunteer parent-coach) with games on Sundays (and sometimes Saturdays or other weeknights as makeup games require).
Travel teams usually participate in at least one tournament per season, which often coincides with holiday weekends. Memorial Day and Columbus Day are popular Tournament weekends. Each individual head coach arranges their own tournament schedule to suit the team's needs.
A high level of commitment is required, and by accepting an invitation to a travel team, you are committing to play in both Fall and Spring.
Teams may travel to nearby towns, such as Chatham, Westfield or Livingston, but may also travel to farther destinations such as Mountain Lakes, Vernon or New Brunswick. Typically, the farthest we go is about one hour. At the youngest age groups, geographic considerations are made when forming “flights.” As they get older, performance on the field will dictate who you play, so distant travel becomes more likely as the players get older.
Travel soccer players, especially at the younger levels, often participate in multiple sports, and there is NOT an expectation from the soccer club that players cease to play other sports during soccer season. However, please understand that by making the commitment to travel soccer, the demands on the time of both players and parents can be great. Choosing to participate in travel soccer should be a family decision as it does affect everybody.
The cost for SCS’s travel program is $520 FOR BOTH SEASONS, plus the cost of a uniform, which can usually be used from season to season as long as it fits.
PLEASE NOTE: BY ACCEPTING AND REGISTERING FOR A POSITION WITH THE TRAVEL SOCCER PROGAM, YOU ARE COMMITTING FOR THE FULL SEASON (FALL AND SPRING). POSITIONS ARE NON TRANSFERABLE. NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN UNLESS VOTED ON BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS.
